St. Paul Lutheran to host organ/piano recital Sunday
St. Paul Lutheran Church will host a recital of organ and piano music this Sunday, March 15. Everyone is invited to attend the 1:30 p.m. program in the sanctuary of the church followed by a dessert reception in the fellowship hall. There is no admission charge for the event.
Eric Mueller, a classically trained pianist and organist from St. Paul, Minnesota, will be the guest recitalist. Eric is the brother of John Mueller of Springfield.
Mr. Mueller has been playing piano for over thirty years. His passion for music began at a very early age. He began taking piano lessons in the second grade (‘he should start when he knows how to read”) and continued studying piano through high school. He began taking organ lessons in the sixth grade (“he should start when he’s tall enough to reach the pedals”) and was already playing for church services in the seventh grade. He studied organ performance at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter with David Fienen and David Cherwien. Since 2014, Mueller has been the Minister of Music at Salem Lutheran Church and School in Stillwater, Minnesota where he leads congregational worship as primary organist and pianist, selects and plans music for Sunday and special services, recruits and supervises church musicians and serves as a key member of the Board of Worship. When not playing piano or organ, Eric is a digital marketing strategist and amateur photographer.
Some of the selections Eric will play include “Praise the Lord with the Drums and Cymbals” by Sigfried Karg-Elert and “Variations on I Know That My Redeemer Lives” by David Cherwien on the organ and “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” by Daniel Hopkins and “A Million Dreams” by The Piano Guys on piano. You can view some of his selections at www.erickeys.com.
This music event is part of St. Paul’s 150th anniversary celebration during 2020. The celebration theme is “Walking With God For 150 Years” and includes a different “walk” event each month. March is “Music Walk” month and the recital is part of the month’s activities. Join St. Paul’s for an afternoon of organ and piano music by Eric Mueller on March 15.
