Class of 1963 celebrates with 55th anniversary reunion

Springfield High School Class of 1963 held their 55th anniversary reunion in Springfield the weekend of August 10-12.

Activities started with a hayride provided by Dave Graff at 1 o’clock Friday.  He provided a second hayride on Saturday from their picnic in Brown’s Park. The rides throughout the community lasted  about an hour and a half each day, observing changes in the community and reminiscing.   Those who arrived on Friday gathered for evening dinner at Outlaws.  Afterwards, the group went to the Legion Club for a social time.  On Saturday, everyone had the option of a school tour, a visit to the museum, or coffee in Brown’s Park. Dave Graff invited several people to bring their “old” cars to the picnic, however, a big classic car show was being held at Jackpot Junction, Morton.   Russ Rogotzke brought his 1935 Ford, Glenn Schmitz brought his 1973 Chevrolet Lagina and 1996 Chevrolet Impala, Cory Brand brought his Ford Mustang; and John Rogotzke drove from Snyder, Texas, to Springfield in his 2015 707 hp Dodge Hell Cat. Lunch was served in the park at noon.  The group met for happy hour at the Springfield Area Community Center at 4:00, gathered for a picture at 5:00, followed by dinner and a program.  Classmates and guests gathered again at the Legion Club for Sunday breakfast. Thirty-three of 60 class members  attended the dinner. Fourteen of the class are deceased.  Diane Thram traveled from South Africa, the furthest distance.  The group voted for their favorite teacher: Ed Albertson.
