Free Tools for Caregivers workshop begins June 24

The Active Aging Programs, of Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota, is now offering a Powerful Tools for Caregivers workshop series.  Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a free six-week wellness program for those who provide care for a loved one.  Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an interactive group workshop providing tools to help caregivers develop self-care strategies to better manage the unique challenges they face.

Caregivers are defined as those who care for a loved one.  Some caregiver responsibilities may include periodically checking on a friend or neighbor. Caregiving responsibilities are broad, but those routinely helping or caring for someone near or far-away, are considered caregivers.

During the six-session series, participants receive support from trained leaders and other caregivers, who are participating in the workshop. Tools will be provided to learn practical skills proven to reduce stress, communicate more effectively, improve self-care, make effective decisions and access community resources for caregivers.  Participants also benefit from meeting other people with similar challenges and learning how to cope together.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers will be provided via Zoom video-conference.  Participants must have access to the internet and have a personal computer, laptop or tablet device with a camera, microphone and speakers.  Detailed instructions to help participants access the Zoom video-conference will be available, as well as one-to-one phone calls to work through specific technical challenges.  Weekly classes will be 90-minutes long and are intended for caregivers of adults with chronic-conditions.  Registration is now being accepted for a Powerful Tools for Caregivers workshop to begin on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 10-11:30 a.m.  Classes will be held for 6 consecutive Wednesdays through July 29, and participants should attend each weekly session.  Registration deadline is June 15.
