Springfield Public Library to host morning movies, author to visit Book Club

Springfield Public Library will be offering morning movies monthly — on the last Saturday of the month—  starting at 9:30.  The movies will be offered free and, generally, will be children’s movies.   The first movie to be shown will be “Ferdinand” on Saturday, April 28.

“Ferdinand” is a 2017 American 3D computer-animated comedy-drama adventure film produced by Blue Sky Studios, Davis Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Animation.  The film was based on Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson’s children’s book, “The Story of Ferdinand,” written by Robert L. Baird.  After Ferdinand, a bull with a big heart, is mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure.

All are welcome.

The Book Club will be discussing Allen Eskens’ book, “The Life We Bury” in May.  Eskens is from Cleveland, Minnesota, and the staff and board of directors at Springfield Public Library decided to invite him to the Book Club’s May gathering, and were fortunate to have him accept their invitation.  Eskens is the best-selling author of “The Life We Bury,” “The Guise of Another,” “The Heavens May Fall,” and “The Deep Dark Decending.” His books have been translated into 20 languages and his novel, “The Life We Bury” is in development for a feature film.

Eskens will make his appearance at the Springfield Public Library’s Altermatt Gallery at 7 p.m. Monday, May 14.
