School Board Proceedings of November 10, 2014

Monday, NOvember 10, 2014 

CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the School Board, Independent School District #85, Brown County, Springfield, Minnesota was held in the District Board Room on Monday, November 10, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tews.

ROLL CALL:  Members present: Charles Tews, Kathy Pederson, Doug Robertson, Megan Quesenberry, Scott Jones, Jeff Kretsch and Justin Roiger.  Also in attendance were Superintendent Kottke, Principal Moriarty and Principal Kuehn, media and SEA.  

APPROVE AGENDA: A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the agenda as printed.  Motion carried 7-0.

APPROVE THE MINUTES:  A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the minutes of the October 13, 2014, regular meeting as presented. Motion carried 7-0.

APPROVE THE TREASURER’S REPORT:  A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the treasurer’s report as printed. Motion carried 7-0. 

APPROVE THE DISTRICT BILLS:  A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the bills as printed. Motion carried 7-0. 

OCTOBER  BILLS:        TOTAL            171,767.46

Resolution Accepting a Gift, Donation, Contribution or Bequest:  : A motion was made, seconded and carried  to accept the gifts, donations, etc. in the amount of $821.06.   Motion carried 7-0.

COMMITTEE AND ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS:  The board heard reports from the following:

Administrators:  Mr. Jeff Kuehn, PK-6 Principal; Mr. Pat Moriarty, High School Principal

Congratulatory Action and Recognition: A motion was, seconded and carried to approve the Congratulatory and Recognition as printed.

Cross Country All Conference was awarded to Andrew Nachreiner, Dillon Nachreiner and Sydney Hauger. Jenny Thorston was awarded All Conference in VB, while Molly Dunn was honorable mention. Molly Dunn, Amy Davis, Taylor Milbrath, and Katie Rosentengel were Academic All State. Carter Erickson, Ryan Fleischer, Michael O’Callaghan and Jake Vanderwerf were selected All Conference, while Colling Ahlness and Sam Baier were honorable mention. Natalie Timm and Michael O’Callaghan will represent our school in the Monnesota Excel Award.

Motion carried 7-0.

NEW BUSINESS:   Resolution Canvassing the Votes in the School District General Election:

RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS OF VOTES OF SCHOOL DISTRICT GENERAL ELECTION

BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Independent School District No. 85, as follows:

 It is hereby found, determined and declared that the general election of the voters of the district held on November 4, 2014, was in all respects duly and legally called and held

As specified in the attached Abstract and Return of Votes Cast, a total of 1591 votes were cast at said election on the election of the following vacancies on the board caused by the expiration of term on the first Monday in January immediately following the general election: three (3) school board members for a four (4) year term. The general election results are as follows:

4 year term

Candidate Jeffrey Kretsch, 850 votes

Candidate Mandy (Kuelbs) Rasset, 845 votes

Candidate Charles Tews, 791 votes

Write In, 26 votes

Candidate Jeffrey Kretsch, Candidate Mandy (Kuelbs) Rasset, and Candidate Charles Tews having received the highest number of votes are elected to four year terms beginning the first Monday in January, 2015

The school district clerk is hereby authorized to certify the results of the election to the county auditor of each county in which the school district is located in whole or in part.

A motion was, seconded and carried to Formal Adoption of the Resolution Canvassing Returns of Votes of School District General Election. Motion carried 7-0.

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION AND DIRECTING SCHOOL DISTRICT CLERK TO PERFORM OTHER ELECTION RELATED DUTIES

WHEREAS, the board has canvassed the general election for school board members held on November 4, 2014.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Independent School District No. 85, State of Minnesota, as follows:

1.  The chair and clerk are hereby authorized to execute certificates of election on behalf of the school board of Independent School District No. 85 to the following candidates:

Jeffrey Kretsch

Kathryn Pederson

Charles Tews

who have received a sufficiently large number of votes to be elected to fill vacancies on the board caused by expiration of term on the first Monday in January next following the election, based on the results of the canvass.

2. The certificate of election shall be in substantially the form attached hereto.

This is to certify as follows:

1. The School Board of Independent School District No. 85 on November 10, 2014 canvassed the general election of school board members held on November 4, 2014.

2. Jeffrey Kretsch, Mandy (Kuelbs) Rasset, and Charles Tews received the (largest/second largest/third largest) number of votes cast for the office of school board member of Independent School District No. 85 for a full four year term.

3. There are three (3) full four year term vacancies on the board caused by expiration of term on the first Monday in January next following the election.

4. Therefore Jeffrey Kretsch, Mandy (Kuelbs) Rasset, and Charles Tews (are) elected to the office of school board member of Independent School District No. 85 for a full four year term beginning the first Monday in January, 2015  and expiring the first Monday in January, 2019.

3.  After the time for contesting the election has passed and the candidate has filed all campaign financial reports required by Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 211A, the clerk of the school board is hereby directed to deliver the certificates to the persons entitled thereto personally or by certified mail.

The clerk is hereby directed to enclose with the certificate a form of acceptance of office and oath of office in substantially the form attached hereto

2014-2015 Seniority List: A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the 2014-2015 seniority list as presented. Motion carried 7-0.

Extra-Curricular Assignment – JH Girls Basketball – Dillon Schultz:  A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve Dillon Schultz as junior high basketball coach. Motion carried 7-0.

Motion to Adjourn: A motion was made, seconded and carried to adjourn at 8:52 pm. Motion carried 7-0.
