Bob Rogotzke to retire and close appliance and refrigeration business

Rogotzke Electric / Appli-ance and Refrigeration, operated by the Rogotzke family for three generations, will come to an end on September 1 when Bob Rogotzke closes his tool box.

After 60 years, Rogotzke, 77, is at the end of the line in the family business.

Emil Rogotzke established Rogotzke Electric in 1919 and operated it out of his home until 1922 when he moved the business to downtown Springfield.   His son, Arthur, became active in the business in 1925.  Art’s son, Robert (Bob), assisted in the business during high school and, after his graduation in 1957, became his father’s business partner. Robert became owner and operator of the business in 1975.

“I learned the refrigeration business by following my dad with a flashlight,” Rogotzke said during a recent interview.

Both Emil and Art were Master Electricians, but the business evolved through the years to include refrigeration and appliance sales and service.
