Community Auction offers new fare, wares, food, fun and entertainment

‘Colonel’ Jim Jensen to call Community Auction

The Springfield Rotary Club will hold its annual Community Auction Tuesday April 25, starting at 5 o’clock in the Springfield Area Community Center.

The auction offers an extensive variety of new merchandise, gift certificates for merchandise and services, and gift cards for food and entertainment that includes tickets to Minnesota Twins Baseball and attractions at Mall of America, among other things.  Local businesses strongly support the auction with donations; and auction proceeds financially support local projects.

New to the auction this year is a Build-Your-Own Burger meal.   Rotarians will grill the burgers, Marie’s Catering will serve them, and you will build your own customized burger from a variety of toppings and condiments, along with potato salad and beverages on the side. Take-out meals will also be available.

Some businesses contribute gift certificates and gift cards while still others donate cash and Springfield Bucks.  The cash is converted to Springfield Bucks and may be used to purchase merchandise or services of choice at any Springfield business.

Pies, along with some cakes, bars and desserts — freshly-baked with home-goodness — will be auctioned off for lively bidding and good eating.

Some good, used furniture, bicycles and miscellaneous items will also be for sale.

Comfortable chairs will be set up for those who wish to participate in the auction.

Proceeds from this year’s auction will go to a tree project in Sticker Field, a community recreational area filled with action all summer long, and a place for student phy ed activities and athletic events during the school year. Springfield School District owns the property located two blocks from the school, and the school and the city formed a partnership in redeveloping the field that includes two softball fields, a football field, new concession stand, restrooms, bleachers and player benches, and a parking lot.
