Community meeting to discuss Riverside Days is Thursday

ans for Springfield’s 2015 Riverside Days will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Springfield Area Community Center. 

All organizations that sponsor events during Riverside Days are urged to attend the meeting.   All individuals interested in the celebration and have opinions or ideas to share are encouraged to attend this meeting.  

Last September, a meeting was held to discuss Riverside Days. Nineteen men and women representing the City of Springfield and various agencies attended this meeting. It was a good meeting with strong interest in sustaining Riverside Days. The consensus of the group was to retain the activities but rearrange the schedule of events in hopes of attracting greater participation.

Attendees at that meeting were advised to report back to their organizations and discuss the various ideas — one idea, potentially, is to move the parade from Sunday afternoon to Friday evening — and realign some of the other activities; and then, after some time and consideration, to gather again to consider plans and make concluding decisions.   

By working together cooperatively, we can make our community’s summer celebration more successful for each individual group and for our community as a whole.
