Hilda Anderson to celebrate 100th birthday
Hilda Anderson will observe her 100th birthday on June 26. “I can hardly believe it,” she said during a recent interview. “I feel better now than when I was young. I have lots of energy.”
Centenarians are an elite group. Most people born in 1900 did not live past 50. But chances of survival to such ripe ages have improved with the rise of vaccines, antibiotics, improvements in hygiene, medical treatments and technology. But, still, the question remains: Why do some people reach 100? We believe good genetics are important, and so are good habits regarding food and drink. Life experience also plays a role.
It seems Hilda has two basic requirements for graceful aging that she borrowed from the Serenity Prayer — “to accept the things we cannot change; courage to change the things we can; and wisdom to know the difference.”
