Local family, friends cheer Olympian curling heroes

Curling clubs throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin — the home states of the American players in the 2018 Winter Olympics —  had late-night television viewing parties that attracted viewers in the local area to cheer for Minnesotans in the games.

Those who watched the curling competition held in the Gangeneung Curling Center, Pyeongchang, South Korea, enjoyed the thrill of seeing Team USA defeat Sweden and capture its first-ever Olympian gold medal.

The team has received much attention from the media for not only winning, but for staging an amazing comeback.  In opening round-robin play, they lost four games in a row, and had fallen so low in the standings that no one expected them to win.  However, in the next five consecutive matches they defeated first-ranked Canada twice and then went on to do what seemed impossible — winning the ninth gold medal for Team USA.
