Marty Seifert coming here for signing and sales of book,‘Sundown at Sunrise’

Marty Seifert, a former area lawmaker and candidate for Governor of Minnesota, will be coming to Springfield the evening of Friday, April 7, to speak about his new book, “Sundown at Sunrise.”

The work of historical fiction is based on a true story of a gruesome ax murder that occurred on a farm near Clements, 100 years ago.

The story’s foundation revolves around the true tale of William Kleeman, a popular young farmer who eventually murders his wife and four children, before committing suicide. Blended with historical fiction to give the story life and interest, Seifert hopes that the story gives reflection upon one of the most notorious ax murders in American history. He grew up only a few miles from the murder site.

Seifert is coming to Springfield for a book signing and sale at the invitation of the Springfield Area Historical Society and the Springfield Public Library. His presentation will take place in the Springfield Public Library at 7 o’clock April 7, and he will be available for book signing and sales for about 45 minutes afterwards.

“I have had this book in my mind for decades,” said Seifert, who released the book in December. “However, in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the murders, I wanted to have this story told. Much of this is out of respect for Maud Kleeman and her children since people have not heard this part of Minnesota history.”

This work of historical fiction gives life to murderer William Kleeman, a handsome young farmer from southwestern Minnesota who courts the beautiful Maud Petri. After a quick engagement and marriage, the couple produce four children and are joined by boarder Mary Snelling, who teaches at the country school across the road. This addictive story winds through many twists before ending in a deadly rampage that results in one of the most notorious ax murders in American history.

Seifert said that due to adult situations and violence, reader discretion is advised. “It’s difficult to write a ‘G-rated’ ax murder book that is suitable for everyone,” he said.

Editing and publishing for Seifert was provided by Beaver’s Pond Press in Edina, Minnesota with printing provided by Thomson Reuters in the Twin Cities.
