Rotary honors long-time member Dr. Frank Boyle

The Springfield Rotary Club honored Dr. Frank J. Boyle on Tuesday, Jan. 24, during their weekly lunch meeting at Tommy’s Central Street Steak House.  Dr. Boyle has retired from the club after more than 50 years.

“Rotary is a great club,” said Dr. Boyle, who retired from the club after more than 50 years.  He joined the Springfield Rotary Club in 1963, a few years after he established his medical practice here, and he told about some of the activities of the club during its early years. During his presidency, the club established a fund that financially supports the Alan Kettner Scholarship, named for an outstanding young Springfield man who graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, and was killed in action during the Vietnam Conflict.  The scholarship fund was started with personal contributions from Rotarians and has provided a scholarship annually to an outstanding Springfield High School graduated — the fiftieth scholarship to be awarded this spring.

The club enjoyed cake and coffee after their meal, and presented Dr. Boyle with a sweatshirt personalized with the Rotary emblem, that he will wear with pride.
