School bells will call students back to class Monday, August 19

The 2019-‘20 school year is about to begin.

Students in Springfield Public and St. Raphael Schools will go back to class on Monday, August 19.

Welcome to new kindergarten students who are beginning their formal learning years. Welcome back to those who will be seniors about to complete their last year in Springfield schools.   Welcome to all students who  continue their learning experiences through these great years of growth and development.

Students will get in the swing of things during the first two weeks with four days of classes. They’ll have a day of vacation on Friday, August 23, and again on Friday, August 30, that will start a four-day weekend providing families the opportunity to attend the state fair and enjoy a long Labor Day weekend.

The corridors and classrooms are already busy places as students and parents attend open house, orientation and register for academics and extra-curricular activities. Fall sports practice for football, crosscountry and volleyball are underway.

Teachers are participating in workshops this week.

When school bells ring in Springfield Monday, most students will have already received their student handbooks, class schedules, and have had opportunities to get acquainted with their teachers, classrooms and curriculum.

For students in Springfield Public Schools, the school day extends from 8:10 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.  For complete information about staff and schedules, turn to Page 8 in this newspaper.

For students in St. Raphael School, their day begins at 8:00 and ends at 2:50 p.m.
