Sleepy Eye man is new postmaster

Ron Miller of Sleepy Eye is Springfield’s new postmaster.

Miller began work in Springfield on Thursday and officially became postmaster with the retirement of Postmaster Mary Larson on Friday.

Miller’s responsibilities as postmaster also include management of the Comfrey, Sanborn and Lamberton Post Offices.

Miller has been an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for sixteen and a half years, working as a city letter carrier in Sleepy Eye. Miller said he will miss his postal patrons, but “this is a good next step for me.”

Miller grew up at Wabasso, graduated from Wabasso High School and attended Southwest State University, Marshall, and then worked in the Minnesota Valley Testing Laboratory in New Ulm, testing plant and soils for pesticide residue, before taking a job with the Postal Service.

Miller said that careers with the Post Office run in his family. His mother, Shirley Miller, was a mail clerk and retired as postmaster in Wabasso after 25 years; his older brother, Glenn, recently celebrated his thirtieth year as a letter carrier in Nevada, Iowa; and his younger brother, Tim, is in his twelfth year as a letter carrier at Kasson.
