Streets/Parks Supt. Gene Haas to retire; Dale Knutson to take wheel of command

 “I’ll have time to do more fishing,” says Gene Haas, who is retiring September 30 after 31 years and five months with the Springfield Streets and Parks Department — the past several years as its supervisor. 

“I’ll be doing less fishing,” responded Dale Knutson, who will assume the responsibilities of supervisor of the Streets and Parks Department.

Knutson is looking forward to the challenges of his job, that involves all sorts of chores and projects in the city. 

“We never run out of work,” said Haas.
