Ardella Mae Grabow was born on February 23, 1931, the daughter of John and Martha “Dora” (Kettner) Grabow. She was raised on her parent’s farm northwest of Springfield and attended country school nearby. Later she attended and graduated from Springfield High School in 1949. In 1950, Ardella was married and blessed with her six children in the next nine years.
Throughout her life, Ardella worked at various places including Del Monte in her younger years, St. John Lutheran Home, HEADSTART, and later in life Control Data/Zytec until her retirement.
Although she kept to herself, Ardella was always at her children and grandchildren’s activities, recitals, games and programs to support her family. She loved participating in the Springfield bowling league for many years. Ardella was very proud of her ancestry and German heritage. She enjoyed reading magazines, crossword puzzles, old time music including Elvis and classic country, playing solitaire, sewing and embroidering. When the weather was nice, she could be found outside gardening and tending to her flowers. Ardella was a dedicated follower of the Minnesota Twins baseball team.
Perhaps one of her proudest moments was when she found out one of her granddaughters was named after her, Vada Dell.
