Arla Jean (Wegner) Sloan, 83, West Fargo, N.D., died peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Sheyenne Crossing Care Center, West Fargo. Arla is at peace with her heavenly Father, her husband, John, and her parents, Otto and Amanda Wegner.

 Arla Jean Wegner was born on July 3, 1932, in Sleepy Eye, Brown County, Minnesota, to Otto and Amanda (Krueger) Wegner.  She was the only child to very loving parents who encouraged her to flourish in her musical talents and abilities.  Arla was a natural vocalist and pianist.  Arla graduated from Sanborn High School in 1952.  After graduating, Arla moved to Tracy and worked at a care facility and met her soul mate of 61 years.

  On November 11, 1953, Arla was united in marriage to John F. Sloan in Springfield.  They lived in Marshall, Sioux Falls, S.D., Omaha, Neb., and Golden, Colo., before moving to West Fargo, N.D.  North Dakota has been their home for more than 50 years and they raised five children — three sons, and two daughters.

  Arla was a day care provider for 51 years and retired in 2008 after faithfully and diligently influencing many children under her care.  Arla was known for her zest for life!  She was known for her outgoing personality, cooking, her musical ability, ability to find treasures at garage sales, and her laughter.  She was involved in numerous community activities besides faithful involvement at Grace Baptist Church as pianist, organist and soloist.

  Arla is survived by her five children:  Doug (Kathi) of Bagley, Dan (Tanja) of Billings, Mont., Debra (Leigh) Eberhart of Brooklyn Park, Don of Laramie, Wy., and Diane (Dan) Pennington, of Gillette, Wy.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Surviving also are her sisters-in-law, Peggy Sverko, Maureen Walsh and Doris Sloan, and brother-in-law, Vince Walsh, and many dear nieces, nephews, daycare children and many loved family and friends.

  Arla was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sisters-in-law, Leona Stark, Molly Furrow and Doris Sloan; brothers-in-law, Leon Sloan, Joseph Sloan, Sheldon Stark, Harold Furrow and Albert Sverko.

 Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, April 6) from 5 until 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 o’clock at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo.  Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at the West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the North Star Cemetery, Springfield, at 1 p.m. Friday, April 8.
