Arnold Turbes

Arnold Francis Turbes, 92, of Springfield, died on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, the St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield with The Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating.  Interment will be in St. Raphael Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael Church. Parish Prayer Service will be at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel.

Arnold Turbes was born on the family farm north of Springfield in Brookville Township, Redwood County, Minnesota, on March 24, 1926,  to Joseph and Mary (Wenisch) Turbes. He attended country School District No.25 and then worked on the family farm. On Oct. 14, 1954, he married Dorothy Schnobrich at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Arnold worked for Engelen Construction from 1951-1962 and at Ochs Brick and Tile Co. from 1962 until retirement in 1988. He enjoyed stamp collecting, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. Arnold was a Boy Scout leader, Union Shop Stewart for 19 years, and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. 

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Doreen Besse of Oceanside, Calif., and Donitta (Kevin) Trebesch of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Jeremy Besse, Duane (Lindsey) Besse, Kory (Nikkie) Trebesch, and Kollin Trebesch; brother, LeRoy Turbes of Kandiyohi; and sister-in-law, Darlene Turbes of Springfield. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; son, David, in 1981; brothers, Peter, Albert, Bernard, John, and Lawrence Turbes; and sisters, Cecilia Reupke, Marie Vogel, Rosella Peters, Agnes Riederer, Christine Nelson, and Eleanor Veenstra.
