Audrey Mae Davis

Audrey Mae Davis, 88, of Sanborn, passed away peacefully at her farm home on August 15, 2021, with her sons caring for her until the end.

Audrey was born on October 13, 1932, to Hubert Lee and Viola Hattie (Hottman) Davis, in Springfield.  As a child, Audrey was raised on the family farm in Section 10, Germantown township, where she lived all her life.  Being raised as a true “farm girl”, she loved following her father around on the farm and her farm animals of all kinds; naming and taming too many to count.  She learned at a young age that being on the farm was the way of life that she would never want to leave.

Audrey attended Sanborn Public School, riding the first school bus in her second year of elementary school.  She graduated with the Sanborn High School class of 1950.  After high school, she attended Mankato Commercial College, then came back to live on the farm and work at the Sanborn Bank.

Audrey raised three children that were the light of her life, Gerald-Lee, Garth and Guy.  While raising her boys, Audrey began working at the Sanborn Public School.  She worked in the school office and with the Title One program for nearly 40 years.  Some of her happiest moments that came from working in the school, were running into numerous children that she spent extra time with teaching reading and math skills.   They would thank her for all the extra time she spent helping them with their education and would share the great things happening in their lives.

One of Audrey’s greatest accomplishments was writing and getting her memoir book published, with the help of some very special friends.  The book tells the story of her life on the farm, her family and numerous animals that she cared for during her life.

While teaching at school, she always came home to the farm and tended to the farm animals that she helped raise with her boys.   She took great pride in livestock, and always instilling in her sons and grandchildren to “make sure you feed your animals before you eat yourself.”   That was a lifelong lesson that will not be forgotten.

Audrey always enjoyed the pick-up rides to see the cows and calves in the pastures and the crops growing on the land.  Her favorite time of year was spring when the calves were being born and her grandkids would bring calves up on the porch to show grandma.

Audrey’s wish for the end of her life was to pass away in her home at the farm.  She was granted her wish with the care and compassion provided by her sons, during the last weeks of her life.

Audrey is survived by Gerald-Lee Dammann of Jeffers, MN, and his children Trenton of Redwood Falls, MN, and Trina (Logan) McAlpin of Cottage Grove, MN; Garth Dammann of Sanborn; Guy (Marie) Dammann of Sanborn, and their children, Samuel and Charles; and great grand-children Maddox, Kennedy and Everly McAlpin.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service was held at the farm with burial at the Sanborn Cemetery on Saturday, August 21, 2021.  Blessed be the memory of Audrey Mae Davis.
