Dale Hatch

Dale E. Hatch, 86, of Tracy died January 8, 2015, at the Prairie View Senior Living in Tracy. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, at Tracy Lutheran Church.  Interment was in the Tracy City Cemetery.

Dale Eugene Hatch was born January 12, 1928, to Ray and Faye Hatch in Tracy. He grew up in Tracy and graduated from Tracy High School in 1945.  As a young man he worked for the Bell Telephone Company, and served with the U.S. Navy. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned home and attended Tracy Junior College, and then worked briefly for Nackerud Bottling, Tracy Bottling and Pipestone Pop. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Augustana College and earned his master’s degree from South Dakota State University. He married Maureen Mahlen August 11, 1957.  In 1957 Dale began his career in education, serving as principal, teacher and head basketball coach in Sanborn. During the summers, Dale and Maureen owned and operated the Dairy Queen at the Sanborn Corners. In 1962 he began his 25 years of service at Tracy High School where he taught until his retirement in 1987. He coached boys basketball at Sanborn High School from 1977 to 1979, and was head coach of the Tracy High School boys basketball team for 14 years. After his retirement he continued as volunteer basketball coach and advisor to the Tracy High School girls basketball team. He was actively involved in his community and church.
