David Anderson, 78, of Springfield, died on June 30, 2019, at his home in rural Springfield
Funeral service will held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Springfield, with Pastor Julie Smith officiating. Interment was in the Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, July 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel, and will continue on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in St. Johns Lutheran Church.
David Albert Anderson was born on May 29, 1941, to Theodore and Florence (Frederiksen) Anderson at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. David was a lifelong resident of rural Springfield. He attended Country School District 65 and graduated from Springfield Public School in 1959. He was
baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church. On August 24, 1963, David was united in marriage to Janice Nelsen in Westbrook. The couple later divorced. David was a farmer for many years. He owned and operated Anderson Auto Sales and hauled hogs for Schwartz Farms. David enjoyed hunting geese, deer, and prairie dogs, riding motorcycle and socializing with neighbors and friends. He attended every NASCAR race at Texas Speedway from its opening for 15 years running. David also liked trapshooting and was on Gary Green’s trapshooting team, which competed at the Darfur Sportsman Club.
He is survived by children, Lynn (Nancy) Anderson, Kristin (Greg) Wersal, Jennifer (Todd) Smetana, and Mackenzie Anderson; grandchildren, Joshua Anderson, Jacob (Laura) Anderson, Jonathan Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Dustin Wersal, Haidee Wersal (fiancé AJ Larson), Kylie Wersal, Addison Smetana, and Brielle Smetana; brother, James (Susan) Anderson; sisters, Karen (Peter) Eller and Kay (Delbert) Pingeon. David was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Grant Anderson, in 1976.
