Deloris Lindley

Deloris Lindley, 87, of Springfield, was called home on October 12, 2016.

Deloris Irene Lindley was born on June 12, 1929, to Raymond and Florence (Larson) Anderson in Westbrook. She graduated from Westbrook Schools. On Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948, Deloris was united in marriage with Donald Franklin Lindley at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook.

Deloris was a gifted creator. For over 40 years she worked at Miesen Color Center as an interior decorator. She was an amateur painter, gardener, seamstress, cook, and embroiderer of hardanger. She was an avid quilter — creating pieces for family, friends, and strangers — each one stitched together with unmatched compassion.

Deloris was a faithful disciple. Every day began with a devotion at the kitchen counter. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield where she served as a deacon, was active in church council, WELCA, Deborah Circle, Bible study, and quilt group. Many Sunday mornings were spent running between St. John Lutheran Church and St. John Lutheran Home, where she would wheel residents down for service.

Deloris was a dedicated servant. She served as a 4-H leader, passing along her love for sewing to the next generation. Deloris also served on the hospital board, and volunteered at St. John Nursing Home for many years. Deloris loved to entertain guests. There was always a hot pot of egg coffee on the stove, and at least one more seat at the table.

Deloris is survived by her children, James (Randy) Lindley of Aurora, Ohio, Joan (Steve) Benzschawel of Minneapolis, and Julie (Mitchell) Linneman of Jacksonville, Florida; eight grandchildren, Stacie, Christopher, Nicholas, Andrea, Lucas, Kira, Megan, and Jacob; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Gwen) Anderson of Westbrook and Robert (Mary) Anderson of Westbrook; sister, Ramona (Leonard) Swanson of Richfield; loving companion Christ Christenson of Morgan; and nieces and nephews. Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Donald; brother, Marvin (DeEtte) Anderson; and sister, Lorraine ‘Punky’ (Kenneth) Wahl.

Visitation was held the evening of Monday, October 17, at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and continued on Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield.  A Celebration of Deloris’ Life was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, at St. John Lutheran Church with Chaplain Noel Wetter officiating.  A luncheon followed the service. Interment was in the Westbrook City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
