Dennis Lyle, 69, of Bird Island died of natural causes on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, while out hunting north of Bird Island.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island with Rev. Nick Huseby officiating. Burial was in the Bird Island City Cemetery. Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Bird Island was in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Edward Lyle was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Springfield, Brown County, Minnesota, to Grover and Marjorie (Lee) Lyle. He grew up at Windom and Sanborn and graduated from Sanborn High School. Dennis served in the U.S. Navy from Oct. 8, 1965, to Oct. 1, 1969 and continued serving in the Reserves until 1971. After his active military service he worked on a turkey farm at Paynesville. Dennis married Carol Lieser of Paynesville on Feb. 20, 1971, in St. James and they were blessed with four children. The family lived and worked in several communities, settling in Bird Island in 1983. Dennis had worked as a farm hand for many years and then was a custodian at BOLD Schools from 1998 until retirement in 2009. He was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island. Dennis had enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and being outdoors, especially when he was hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed helping his neighbors and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Carol Lyle, of Bird Island; his four children, Tom (and Brenda) Lyle of Paynesville, Brian Lyle (and fianceé Janet) of Delano, Jay (and Kathy) Lyle of Hutchinson, and Tessa (and Scott) Fank of Olivia; his 10 grandchildren, Emily and Joseph Lyle, Alexandra and Charlotte Lyle, Donald, Catherine, Matilda, Phyllis, Hattie, and Rose Fank; his three brothers, Ron Lyle of Springfield, Dave (and Julie) Lyle of Springfield, and Dewayne (and Geri) Lyle of Redwood Falls; and his two sisters, Deb (and Tom) Altermatt of Wanda and Cheryl (and Arland) Roiger of Springfield. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Darrell Lyle and Richard Lyle; and two infant sisters: Diane and Marilyn Lyle.
