Don Steve

Donald Henry Steve, 88, of Sartell, formerly of Sanborn, died on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at the Country Manor in Sartell.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn with Father Anthony Hesse officiating. Interment will be at the Sanborn City Cemetery.

Donald Henry Steve was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Marie (Quade) Steve. A long-time resident of Sanborn, Don attended Sanborn High School where he participated in baseball, basketball,
and football and graduated in 1948. He served our country in the Korean Conflict from 1953 until 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Hensch, on August 13, 1955. Don and his wife owned and operated the gas station at Sanborn Corners and later their Standard Oil bulk petroleum business. Don was a member of the Sanborn Fire Department, the Sanborn American Legion, the Sanborn Community Club, the Sanborn Cemetery Board, and St. Thomas Catholic Church. He moved to Country Manor in Sartell in the fall of 2009 where he received excellent care. Don loved hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards, family get-togethers, and was an avid sports fan. He cheered on his grandchildren at many of their sporting events and was their greatest fan. After retirement, Don enjoyed his winters in Texas and summers at Lake Winnie.

He is survived by sons, Tom (Brenda) of Sartell and Jim (Dana) of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Todd (Alissa) of Redwood Falls, Nick (Samantha) of Otsego, Derek of St. Cloud, and Alyssa of St. Cloud; and great-grandchild, Elena. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his brother, Orville; and his parents, Henry and Marie. 

Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
