Doris Mae Weber was born on June 5, 1939, to Julius and Beatrice (Steffensmeier) Weber in Burnstown Township, Brown County, MN.  She graduated from Wabasso High School in 1957.  At the age of 18, Doris started her career at the Springfield Advance Press as the Society Editor.  She became the editor of the paper in 1981 and after 62 years, Doris retired in October 2019.  Doris attended many events to capture the moments and happenings in Springfield with camera in hand.  She was a great asset to the community and served on many boards and committees.  Doris served on the Springfield EDA board, SANTA, Springfield Area Community Center Facilities Board, Springfield Area Foundation and was a founding member, Springfield Area Historical History where she served as president, Springfield Community Education Committee, St. John Circle of Care Foundation, F&M Bank Board of Directors, and the Blandin Community Leadership Program.  She was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Springfield Rotary, and Springfield American Legion Auxiliary.  She helped with the Centennial and 125th committees for Springfield and helped with the publications of the Town on the Minnesota Prairie History Book and the People of Springfield Book.  Doris was a recipient of many awards including the St. John Touch of Kindness Award (1987), Half Century Club - Minnesota Newspaper Association (2008), Springfield FFA Honorary Chapter Degree (2008), Spirit of Springfield Award (2010), Paul Harris Fellow - Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, KEYC Good Person Award (2017), and the Springfield Public School 2021 Hall of Fame Inductee - Community Partner.  Doris enjoyed reading, tending her flowers, and golfing.  She had an interest in everyone and everything.  Doris had the gift to be able to strike up a conversation with someone she just met, and still be visiting with them two hours later.  She not only had a passion for her work at the newspaper, but also for the community in which she lived.  This was quite evident in the number of organizations and committees she served on.  She didn’t just delegate duties, she rolled up her sleeves as well when there was hard work to be done.  She had a strong faith, a loving family and loyal friends, and she will be missed. She is survived by her siblings - Cathryn (Alfred) Liebl, Bob (Colleen) Weber, Ralph (Judi) Weber, Audrey Wagner, Arlene (Ed) Nelsen, Larry (Marg) Weber, Judy (Dave) Lipetzky, and Dan (Linda) Weber; 39 nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
