Doris Saffert

Mass of Christian Burial for Doris Saffert, 88, of Sleepy Eye and formerly of Sanborn, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.   Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Saffert died on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Born Aug. 2, 1929,  in New Ulm, Doris graduated from Holy Trinity School and attended Johnson’s Beauty School, and worked at Sallet’s bridal shop in Mankato and for a time as a hairdresser in New Ulm before her marriage. She married Gilbert Saffert May 16, 1949, and they farmed near Sanborn. She was Sanborn area news correspondent for the Springfield Advance-Press at one time. 

She is survived by daughters, Karen Weiss, Roxane Johnson, Renee Willhite and Doreen Saffert; a son, Alan;  12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and siblings, Ray Meidl, Paul Meidl, Yvonne Windschitl, Lorraine Schroepfer and Lois Johnston.
