Douglas John Hamlin

Douglas John Hamlin age 63, of Springfield died on August 9, 2021, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. 

Service wasbe held at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. with visitation following from 4:00 p.m.  to 7:00 p.m.

Doug was born in Sibley, IA to John and Viola Hamlin on November 12, 1957. He attended George High School and graduated in 1976. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Iowa State University. In his early career, he worked as a feed salesman (Boyden, IA) and an elevator manager (Larchwood, IA; Bruce, SD; West Union, IA). He then moved back to George, IA and worked as a commodities broker. Later, he worked as cattle buyer in Springfield, MN before starting his own business, Hamlin Ag Marketing and Consulting, which he ran with his son, Jeff. He was very passionate about this work and was always on call for his customers.

When he was a young father, he enjoyed playing baseball, fishing, and reading stories to his children. He was a devoted father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories, playing pinochle, and grilling a good steak. He was an active gardener and nurturer, growing fruit trees, flowers, and caring for animals.

Doug is survived by his wife Deanna Hamlin; children Stephanie Hamlin, Jeff (Shawna) Hamlin, Kati (Mike) Meyer, Tyler (Kim) Hamlin, and Jason (Misty) Wynia; sister Carol (Roger) Armstrong; grandchildren Kylie, Levi, Sophia, Isabella, and Luke. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Viola Hamlin, and his brother Richard Hamlin.
