Dr. Duane P. Jacobs (Doc), 91, of Waconia and formerly of Springfield, died on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016. 

He was born July 4, 1925, in Wheaton, Minnesota, the son of Louis and Verna (Hartwig) Jacobs.  

Duane served in the Army and Navy during World War II.  He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in veterinary medicine.  He and Margie were married on March 3, 1950.  He was hired by the USDA, Animal Plant Health Inspection Service, working in animal disease control assigned to Springfield.  He and Margie raised their family in Springfield.  They then moved to Eagan, where he continued his career with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.

He treasured time spent with family, running marathons, playing tennis and cribbage.  Margie and Doc enjoyed spending winters south on the gulf shore beaches.  He will be remembered for his fun sense of humor.  

He is lovingly survived by wife, Margie (Robinson) Jacobs; brother, Errol Gooding, and sister, Betty Jean Hasbargen; children, Robin Jacobs (Susan), Kurt Jacobs (Deb), Debby Knutson (Kent); seven grandchildren, Shelice Tomasek (Mark), Paul Jacobs (Kara), Corey Jacobs, Kristy Bussewitz (Jon), Robert Jacobs (Jolene), Greg Jacobs and Rob Knutson; and 12 great-grandchildren.

We all thank you, Doc/ Dad / Grandpa / Great-grandpa, for your legacy. You will be deeply missed.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lowell Jacobs; sisters, Ila Mae Larson and Vionne Crouch; daughter, Pam Carlberg; and granddaughters, Katy Knutson and Sara Jacobs.

A private memorial service was held.  Memorials preferred to be sent to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, www.alzfdn.org
