Duane Weisensel

Mass of Christian Burial for Duane Weisensel, 56, of New Ulm, was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Father Germaine Rademacher celebrating the Mass. Burial was in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

 Duane died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Weisensel of New Ulm; his mother and stepfather, Madonna and Albert Ebnet of Springfield; daughters, Jennifer (Philip) Beier of Minnetonka, Angela (Jesse) Zeig of New Ulm; a son, Derrick Weisensel of New Ulm; grandchildren, Mason Duane Beier and Taylor Zeig-Guentzel; sisters, Sharon (Dennis) Sehr of Springfield, Connie (Dwight) Bluhm of Morgan, Joyce (Gene) Haas of Springfield, LeAnn (Gerard) Jensen of Springfield, Krisi (Ben) Hoffmann of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Jeffrey (Stacey) Weisensel and Keith (Jill) Weisensel, all of Springfield; and by his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Spieker of Kenneth.    He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Weisensel; and his father-in-law, Cletus Spieker.

Duane LeRoy Weisensel was born January 23, 1959, in Sleepy Eye to LeRoy and Madonna (Wersal) Weisensel. He was a 1977 graduate of Springfield High School, and attended the Pipestone Vocational School in the meat cutting program. Duane was united in marriage to Rosemary Spieker on September 15, 1979, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lismore. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where he was employed at Madsen’s Grocery, Randall’s Super Valu and Cashwise in the meat department. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, collecting toy tractors and repairing things. Duane loved spending time and playing with his grandson Mason.  

He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm.
