Esther Ebnet

Esther E. Ebnet, 93, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Wabasso, died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Divine Providence Nursing Home in Sleepy Eye.   Visitation preceded the funeral service held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso.   Interment was in the St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery.

Esther Emma (Siegmann) Ebnet was born May 24, 1924, to Henry and Ida (Hauth) Siegmann in Stately Township, Brown County, Minnesota.  She grew up and attended country school near Dotson.

On June 14, 1945, Esther married George Ebnet at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso, and they moved to a farm in New Avon Township, east of Wabasso.  After George’s death, Esther remained on the farm for several years before moving to Springfield.  Six years ago she became a resident of the Divine Providence Senior Living in Sleepy Eye, and most recently was living in the nursing home at Divine Providence.

Esther was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, and friend, who was loved by everyone.  After just a few months as a resident of Divine Providence Senior Living she was voted “Resident of the Year.”  Esther truly loved to be around people.  She was an excellent listener to what others had to say, and loved visiting with family, friends, neighbors and relatives.  She was always so grateful to others for any little thing that was done on her behalf.

Esther is survived by her five children: one daughter, Mary (Kenneth) Wiese of Comfrey;  four sons, Gene (Terese) Ebnet of New Ulm, Kenneth (Sharon) Ebnet of Wabasso, Jerry (Cyndee) Ebnet of Kasson, and Mike of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Caroline Welsch of Sleepy Eye; one brother-in-law, Albert (Donna) Ebnet of Springfield; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George Ebnet; her parents, Henry and Ida Siegmann; one grandson, Robert Wiese; five brothers, Edward, Clarence, Walter, Elmer and Albert; and seven sisters, Frieda, Rose, Mary, Laura, Ida, Irene and Lucille.  Also preceded in death by many brothers and sisters-in-law.

The Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association assisted the family with funeral  arrangements.
