Eugene H. Zimmermann

A celebration of the life of  Eugene H.  Zimmerman, 74, was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey with Pastor Jerome Klotz officiating. Burial was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, rural Comfrey.

On June 9, 2018, Eugene passed away at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield.

Eugene Henry Zimmermann was born on Nov. 18, 1943 at the Tessien Hospital in Springfield, Brown County, Minnesota, to the late Henry W. and Henrietta (Wellner) Zimmermann. He was baptized at the Christ Lutheran Church in rural Comfrey in 1943 and later confirmed in that same church. Eugene received his education in the Comfrey Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1962. He then furthered his education at Mankato Vocational-Technical Institute in Mankato. 

On April 11, 1964, Eugene was united in marriage to Irene Mae Evers at the Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Through the years, Eugene was a horse trainer and drove semi-truck for over 40 years. He worked for Randy Halter Trucking, Pro-Trucking, Cannonball trucking and most recently, for Berkner Hay and Trucking until retiring in 2016. Eugene has lived his entire life in Stately Township, Brown County, Minnesota.

Eugene was a former member of the Christ Lutheran Church in rural Comfrey where he served on the church council and cemetery board. Eugene loved horses 24/7 and showed many champions over the years. He was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Eugene was involved in many and various horse organizations holding many offices. He belonged to Cross Country Trail Riders, Southwest Minnesota Trail Riders Association, Minnesota Palomino Horse Exhibitors, served as State President and member of the Minnesota Quarter Horse Association, belonged to the Minnesota POA and National POA Association, and at the time of his death was Executive Vice-President of IBHA (International Buckskin Horse Association), chairman of the judges committee across the country, was a horse judge for Buckskins IBHA, Pinto Horse Association, American Miniature Horse Registry, ABRA and POA. He had judged many horse shows across the country, including Canada-World Shows included. He was awarded for being the equipment and backup judge for over 20 years in 2017 in the IBHA Assn.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Irene Mae Zimmermann of Comfrey; one sister, Ardell (Glen) Frandle of Frost; and their sons, Mark (Lynn) Frandle and David (Gina) Frandle, all of Frost.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Elmer and Herman Evers, Wayne Caraway, Ben Christianson and Armin Schenk; nephews, Curtis Evers and Rodney Evers; great-nephew, Andrew Holland; and great-niece, Tiffany Nelson.
