Evie Conrad

Evie Conrad, 82, of Alexandria, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died at peace, with her two daughters by her side, at Bethany Community Home in Alexandria on Friday, January 1, 2016, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Evie was born on May 17, 1933, in Claremont, Minnesota.  She was the youngest child of Albert and Agnes Naylor.  Evie grew up in Claremont and then Rochester, Minnesota, where she graduated from Lourdes High School.  She married her husband, Dennis “Red” Conrad, on August 1, 1953.  Together, they had four children.  They moved to Sleepy Eye, in 1962 and then in 1987 moved to Hemet, California, where they lived for 20 years.  In 2007, they returned to Minnesota and made their home in Alexandria.

Two of Evie’s greatest accomplishments were being elected as the first female city councilwoman in Sleepy Eye and getting her degree as a Registered Nurse.  Evie was an avid bowler, bridge player, and traveler, but her greatest pleasures were entertaining and cooking for her family and friends, and spending quality time with her grandchildren who were very special to her.

Evie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dennis, “Red” Conrad, and three children, Laurie (Neal) Hunter of Alexandria, Susie (Lyle) Braun of Temecula, Calif., and Tom (Melissa) Conrad of New Palestine, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Ken (Denise) Holm, John (Fatima) Holm, Jeff (Elise) Braun, Kristin (fiancé Nick Brassell) Conrad, James Conrad, Andrea (Peter) Pyer, and Steven Conrad; three great-grandchildren,Carter, Rayna, and Taylin Holm.  Evie is also survived by her brother, Gene (Bernie) Naylor of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.

Evie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary Miller Klinker and Joan Walker; and son, Daniel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
