Fred Coners Sr.

Fred Coners Sr., 82, of Springfield, died on Friday, March 3, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Visitation will be at the Sturm Funeral Home on Thursday, March 9, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and will continue on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The service will be held at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield on Friday, March 10, at 11:30 a.m. with Chaplain Noel Wetter officiating.  Interment will be in the Springfield City Cemetery. 

Fred Claus Coners, Sr. was born on Feb. 26, 1935, to Claus and Ann (Rohden) Coners in Mountain Lake. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. On July 16, 1966, Fred was united in marriage to Virginia Jones in Sleepy Eye. The couple lived in Cobden until 1994 when they moved into Springfield. Fred was a self-employed contractor for many years. He was a member of the Springfield American Legion. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, watching movies, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his children, Terry (Jennifer) Coners of Morton and Fred Coners Jr. of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister. 

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife Virginia in 2015; and many siblings.
