Gary Don was born April 5, 1956, in New Ulm, to Don and Elaine (Jensen) Hesse. He was baptized in Christ and confirmed in the Lord’s house. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1974. On October 8, 1977, he was united in marriage to Sandy Haseleu. They built a life together on a farm site near Clements, where he remodeled their home through many projects over the years. His love of working with his hands and building things kept him in construction for his entire adult life.

Gary Don was a history buff. You could ask him anything about history and he knew it. He was always involved with and embraced technology. When he was not tinkering with or rebuilding computers, he could be found listening to music and playing his guitars and harmonicas. He loved watching the bald eagles that nested in a tree in their back pasture. He loved to watch his grandchildren play, taught them many lessons, and so enjoyed listening to their laughter and giggles fill their home. He was most at peace surrounded by the quietness and serenity of being outside in the country at their home.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy; children Sarah and Adam Wenisch, and Adam & Samantha Hesse; grandchildren Lexy, Luke, Kaleb, Avery & Emma Wenisch, and Sawyer, Corbin & Rowyn Hesse; sisters and brothers Patty Jo Morris, Peggy Sue Hesse & Brian Mathiowetz, Treff Hesse; mother in law Leola Haseleu; and brother in law Randy & Rose Haseleu; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Don & Elaine, step-father Charles Hoffman, father in law William Haseleu, brother in law Palmer Mickelson, niece Tammy Morris, and nephew Derek Haseleu.
