Funeral service for Genevieve Moe, 104, will be held at noon today (Wednesday, October 28) in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at St. John Lutheran Home. Chaplain Noel Wetter and Pastor Julie Smith, St. Johns Lutheran Church, will officiate at the service. Interment will be at the Springfield City Cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials preferred to St. John Lutheran Home.
Visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:00 today at St. John Lutheran Home.
Mrs. Moe, a lifetime resident of the Springfield community, died Sunday, October 18, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Home.
Genevieve Moe was born October 8, 1911, in North Star Township, Brown County, Minnesota, to Louis and Emma (Rieba) Roiger. The family moved to town when Gen was 2 years old and she graduated from St. Raphael Catholic School in 1928. Gen worked at a doctor’s office and several businesses in Springfield until she became owner of the grocery department in the Home Department Store. She was united in marriage to Norman Moe on June 16, 1941, in Springfield and the couple lived on a farm east of Springfield for 42 years before moving to Springfield in 1983. Gen was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crafts, knitting, baking cookies, reading, and visiting with people. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by son, Kent Moe and wife Ann of Springfield; daughter, Norma Hughes of Elk River; grandchildren, Matthew Hughes, Cathryn (Lance) Durbin, and Amy Moe; step-grandchildren, Jenifer (Ron) Sette, and Suzanne Murphy; and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman, in 2006; infant brother, Lawrence; and stepmothers, May Parker Roiger, and Frances Kreutzer Roiger.
