Greta Jensen, 84, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Home.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Sundown Lutheran Church in Sundown Township with the Rev. Juanita Harberts officiating. Interment will be Sundown Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday, May 28, at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue at Sundown Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30 until time of services.
Greta Marcellyn Bredvold was born on April 11, 1931, in Springfield, Brown County, Minnesota, the daughter of Otto and Margaret (Coulter) Bredvold. She was baptized and confirmed at Sundown Lutheran Church. Greta attended country school District 27 in Redwood County until eighth-grade and then completed her schooling in Springfield, graduating with the Springfield High School Class of 1948. After attaining her associate’s degree in teaching from Mankato Teacher’s college, Greta taught in a rural school and Morton Public Schools for five years. Gretta married Warren Jensen on August 21, 1953, and the couple farmed the Bredvold family farm in Sundown Township and lived in Sundown until moving into Springfield in 2003. Greta enjoyed traveling and music. She was a lifetime member of Sundown Lutheran Church where she served on the WELCA board, was the church organist, senior and junior choir director, and Sunday school Christmas program director for many years.
She is survived by her children, Jodi (Del) Dalsgaard of Springfield, Paula (Jim) Mandeville of Columbus, Montana, and Steve (Samantha) Jensen of Avon, Connecticut; grandchildren, Timothy and Peter Dalsgaard, Benjamin Mandeville, Ellen Mandeville (Steven’s wife), Parker, Matthew and Christopher Jensen; and many nieces and nephews. Greta was preceded in death by her parents; husband Warren, in 2013; grandson, Steven Mandeville; sisters, Judi (Ralph) Steiner and Bonnie (Gordon) Jensen; and sister-in-law, Alva (David) Arnsdorf.
