Irene M. Wenisch

Irene M. Wenisch, 99, of Springfield, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Friday, March  22 in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, St. John Lutheran Home followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Noel Wetter officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Irene is survived by her children, Karla (Allen) Mathiowetz of Morgan, Steve (Flo) Wenisch of Springfield, Colleen (John) Jenniges of Springfield, and Karen (Ted) Gatfield of Redwood Falls; 12 grandchildren: and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, in 1999; and two brothers, Norbert and Aloys Weyker.

Irene Margaret Weyker was born on Feb. 18, 1920, in Morgan to Charles and Mary (Gulden) Weyker.  She was united in marriage to Vincent Wenisch on Oct. 5, 1939, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan.  Irene was a homemaker, raising her children on the family farm near Springfield.  Irene and Vincent spent a year in Arizona, before returning to Redwood Falls, where they retired.  Irene enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, sewing, and crafting.  But most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
