James J. Broich

James J. Broich, 90, of Sleepy Eye died on March 11, 2018, at his home.  Boich served the city of Sleepy Eye for three decades — a city councilor from 1986 to 1992 and mayor from 1992 to 2016. He served on the Region Nine Commission from 1997 to 2016, and in many local and regional committees and other organizations including the Minnesota River Area Aging Board of Directors and the District 7 of the Minnesota Department of Transportation.   He worked for Minnegasco, built, owned and operated the Dairy Queen store in Sleepy Eye,  was in the insurance business as an agent, sold real estate and securities, and in later years worked in the post office, retiring in 1981.

Funeral service was held March 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Jean Wass of Essig; and son, Robert Broich of Plymouth.
