Jerome "Jerry" Lipetzky

Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome “Jerry” Lipetzky, 92, was held at the St. Raphael Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, with The Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating. Interment will be at the St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery in Springfield at later date.

Mr. Lipetzky died on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Jerome Alois Lipetzky was born to Alois and Ann (Heitzig) Lipetzky on the family farm in Sundown Township, Redwood County, Minnesota, on February 27, 1922. He attended Country School District 71 through the sixth-grade, St. Raphael Catholic School for seventh- and eighth-grade, and graduated from Springfield High School. On September 22, 1947, Jerry married Mary Wagner in Fairfax. Jerry was a farmer all his life and lived on the family farm until 1984 when he retired from farming. Jerry served as secretary for the Sundown Township Board for more than 30 years.

Jerry was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clements, and a current member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield. Through the years Jerry served as a religious education instructor, lector, and usher at his church. He also served as the secretary of Board of Education for St. Joseph Catholic School. From 1971-1988, Jerry served as president of Clements Lumber, Inc., and he also served as president of the Board of Directors of Clements Federal Credit Union from 1967-1984. Jerry remained very active after retirement delivering Meals on Wheels and serving as a volunteer at St. John Lutheran Home. He was a recipient of the St. John Lutheran Home Touch of Kindness Award in recognition for his many years of volunteer service.  Even at the age of 90, Jerry was still delivering meals, volunteering at the home and league bowling. Jerry especially enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren; he also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fishing and bowling.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; children- David (Judy) Lipetzky, Springfield; Stephen (Dianne) Lipetzky, Springfield; Jean Weber, Glencoe; Tim (Hyon) Lipetzky, Springfield; Ceil (Steve) Rivard, Redwood Falls; William (Donna) Lipetzky, Alexandria; Carol Lipetzky, Redwood Falls; Diane Wells, Savage; Jim (Tammy) Lipetzky, Brownstown, Mich.; and Katie (Pat) Kelly, Spicer; 33 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Sister Marie Ann Lipetzky, Elizabeth O'Halloran, Monica Kujawa, Lois Laurence, Bernadine Sykora, and Patricia Peichel, and brother, Al Lipetzky. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Daniel and Michael; granddaughter, Jenny Lipetzky; great-grandson, Christopher Lipetzky; and brothers, Francis, Vincent and George.
