Mass of Christian Burial for Joanne Groebner 67, of Sleepy Eye, was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with Msgr. Eugene Lozinski officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Mrs. Groebner died on February 9, 2015, at her home in Sleepy Eye.
Joanne B. Helget was born on March 5, 1947, in Sleepy Eye, Brown County, Minnesota, the daughter of Florian and Leona (Rothmeier) Helget. After graduating from high school she married Richard Groebner on November 23, 1966, in Springfield. She worked on the family farm while she was married. Joanne worked part-time at Schutz Family Foods and Randy’s Family Drug. She enjoyed bowling, going to Jackpot Junction, spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends, playing cards, working puzzles and watching the Minnesota Twins.
She is survived by her daughters, Shari (Bill) Pelzel of Sleepy Eye, Shelly (Gary) Kosak of Sleepy Eye, Kristi (Marv) Hose of New Ulm, and Stacey (Jeff) Zarn of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Hannah Pelzel, Kodan, Kelsie and Kameron Kosak, Kenzie and Lindsay Hose, and Kallie and Natalie Zarn; siblings, Kenny (Sally) Helget of Springfield, Lois Schley of Kent, Wash., Betty Kieper of Springfield, Margie (Randi) Martinson of Fairmont, and Kevin (Sue) Helget of Franklin. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Schley and Jerry Kieper.
Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
