John C. ‘Jack’ Sater
John C. “Jack” Sater, 87, of Eagan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Louise; four brothers, Vernon, Corlyss, Richard and Robert; and three sisters, June, Sandy, Leatrice.
Jack grew up in Springfield, Minn., and joined the U.S. Navy one week after graduating high school. Following the Korean War, he attended South Dakota State University and earned a degree in electrical engineering. He began his career in 1959 at Remington Rand Univac, and later directed the deployment of automated air traffic control systems in over 300 U.S. airports. He retired from Unisys as director of air traffic control systems engineering. For the next 18 years, he volunteered in the classroom as an elementary school reading buddy. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage, enjoying monthly luncheons at the Norwegian Viking Luncheon Club. He also liked to travel, read, bowl, spend time at the “lake” and attend his grandchildren’s sporting events. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by daughters Lori (Phil) Anderson and Kari (Max) de Lavenne; grandchildren, Stephanie and Zack Anderson and Tristan and Eden de Lavenne; six sisters, Phyllis Wurtz, Coralie Ritchie, Diane (Don) Boelter, Mary (Kenny) Griffith, Darla (Pete) Peterson and Ruthie (Jim) Barge.
Visitation only 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at J.S. Klecatsky & Sons Eagan Chapel, 1580 Century Pt. (Yankee Doodle @ Coachman) in Eagan. Funeral Service 11a.m. Thursday, June 7, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 S. Knox Ave. in Minneapolis. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
