John E. Krier

On Saturday, March 18, 2023 John Eugene Krier, a loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 77, at his home in Tracy, CA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

John Eugene Krier was born on December 12, 1944  to Elmore and Edna (Berens) Krier in  Wisconsin. He moved with his family to Modesto CA as a teenager and graduated from Downey High School.

He was a US Marine and served in the Vietnam War. Soon after coming home, he met and married Lenore Krier. They made their first home in Oakdale, CA and were blessed with four children. The family later moved to Modesto, CA. The couple later divorced.

After marriage, John went to work at the Hershey plant in Oakdale. He spent many decades working for Hershey’s, running a giant candy bar line and retired from the plant in 2007.

It was at Hershey’s where he met the love of his life, Alberta. They married on February 16, 1991 and honeymooned in Hawaii. Together they enjoyed traveling, watching movies and spending time with each other. They made their first home in Modesto, CA, and later moved to Tracy, CA.

John was dedicated to his work, but his passion was his family, including his pets which were many, fixing up his home and fishing. He loved to fish for sturgeon and striped bass in the Delta and kept a boat for years at Sherman’s Island. When he wasn’t fishing, he was always working on projects around his home. Many remember John as the “Candy Man”, as he enjoyed passing out candy and homegrown fruit to his friends and acquaintances.

He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3199 of Modesto, CA.

John was known for his generosity and love for animals.

John will be forever in the hearts of Alberta Krier, wife of 32 years; daughters Wendy Krier of Springfield, MN, Victoria Grove (Tony) of Denver, CO; son Nic Krier (Elizabeth) of Susanville, CA; Stepsons Dean Creekmore of Riverbank, CA, Bobby Joe Creekmore Sr. of Mayflower, AR.
