John Howard Davis, Sr.

John Howard Davis,  Sr., 69, passed away at his home on Monday, February 24, 2020. 

John was born in December 1950 to Harold and Grace (Thompson) Davis in Springfield. Shortly after graduating from Springfield High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt as an Aviation Ordnanceman. After the Navy, he returned to Springfield. He met his significant other Millie and together had two boys, John, Jr. and Wesley. As an avid woodsman, he would carve ducks and geese out of wood, even ones that could float or stand. He always appreciated wildlife and loved watching the deer and other animals during his walks. He also enjoyed watching the Vikings. 

John is survived by sons John, Jr. (Valerie) and Wesley (Alison), special daughter Cinnamon, brothers Paul (Lisa) and Mark (Pat), and also special friend Millie. 

John was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Grace, his sister Virginia and brother-in-law Joe. 

John was interred with military honors at Springfield City Cemetery at soldier’s rest. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Springfield American Legion on April 25 at 2:00 p.m. 

His family would like to say thank you to his neighbors and friends for helping him throughout the years. 

The prairie winds have lifted him into Heaven.
