Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson

Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson, 66, of Lamberton, formerly of Wabasso, was at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. A recording of the service will be available at www.lowafc.org. A visitation took place from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment followed at St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery in Wanda. 

Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson was born to Otto and Mary Ann (Solyntjes) Weber on September 28, 1954, at the Springfield Hospital. She attended St. Mathias Catholic School through grade 7, St. Anne’s Catholic School for grade 8, and Wabasso Public School for grades 9-12. Kathy’s work history includes: Polish Palace in Wanda bartending and waitressing; owner and operator of the Wanda Food Market for 10 years; part time for the US Postal Service and Ben Franklin in Redwood Falls; Puzzle Craft, Wabasso Nursing Home, and Salfer’s Food Market, all in Wabasso. In 2014, Kathy became disabled with Primary Lateral Sclerosis and could not continue working.

Kathy married Verdan “Verdie” Johnson on January 27, 2006, in Redwood Falls. Verdie passed away on May 7, 2016.  Kathy needed additional assistance and moved into Garnette Gardens in May of 2017. Due to her health, in July 2019, Kathy moved to Valley View Manor in Lamberton.

Kathy’s main hobbies were cooking and canning. You could always find her in the kitchen. She was known to bring a favorite dish to others during their time of need. Two of her beloved food items to bring were her deviled eggs and potato salad. She had a big heart and was always willing to help or volunteer. She always kept her hometown of Wanda close to her heart. Kathy loved to take pictures to document different events in her life. She truly enjoyed people and children.

Kathleen died on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. She is survived by her sisters Patricia (Lynn) Story of Lamberton, Barbara Hoffmann of Inver Grove Heights, Joan (Richard) Boyle of Pearland, TX, and Karen Weber of Wanda; nieces and nephews; and her adopted by heart, Altermatt children she babysat.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, brothers Richard “Dick” and Dennis “Snap,” in-laws Martha (Remiger) Weber, Jim Boyle, Cletus Hoffmann, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wanda Softball Association, Valley View Manor Activities Department, or the Wanda Catholic Heritage Foundation.
