Kurt Moe

Kurt Moe Funeral service for Kurt Moe, 73, was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Pastor Julie Smith officiating. Interment was in the Springfield City Cemetery. Mr. Moe died on September 1, 2016, at Seasons Hospice in Redwood Falls. Kurt Moe was born May 4, 1943, in Hondo, Texas, where his father was stationed at Hondo Airfield. He was involved in 4-H, FFA and band. He graduated with honors from Springfield High School in 1961. He attended the University of Minnesota and played clarinet in the Minnesota Marching Band. While there he worked as a teaching assistant in the Agriculture Economics Department. Also worked a summer at Sleepy Eye’s Del Monte plant. Kurt enlisted in the Army Reserve driving tanks for four years at Fort Ripley and Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. When the armor unit was disbanded he became a payroll specialist spending summers at Fort Carson, Colorado. Kurt worked for International Harvester for a year before creating the new State of Minnesota Sales Tax office in Mankato as a senior sales tax auditor. Kurt married Cynthia Welshans April 30, 1970. He played clarinet with the Mankato Elks Band. In 1972 he moved to Springfield to farm with his parents. Kurt was a DeKalb seed corn dealer. His hobbies included being a staff correspondent for Knife World magazine and being featured in a “Best of Knife World” book on knives and razors. He enjoyed chess, making ceramics, tropical fish, family genealogy, and his cats. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Moe of Springfield; mother, Margaret Moe of Springfield; brothers, Bruce (Mary) Moe of Holmen, Wisconsin, and Lonn Moe of Shoreview; nieces and nephew, Renee Moe of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sherri (Troy) Siekas and their son Gavin of Waconia, Brian Moe and son Ayden of Beloit, Wisconsin, and Amanda Moe of Omaha, Nebraska. Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Roy Moe. Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield was entrusted with funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
