Larry ‘Louie’ Sellner

Larry “Louie” Sellner , 68, of Sleepy Eye, died on September 17, 2018, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.

His funeral service was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the Sleepy Eye Event Center. Interment was in Home Cemetery.

Larry “Louie” Sellner, the youngest of 15 children of Edward and Mathilda “Tillie” Seidl, was born on Oct. 25, 1949, in Sleepy Eye.  He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and started hauling milk with his older brother, Eddie. Louie married Sandra Huiras on August 7, 1971, in Sleepy Eye. He hauled can and bulk milk seven days a week to Essig and AMPI in New Ulm for 37 years.  He sold his bulk route and worked at Coleman Powermate in order to enjoy weekends camping with his family at Long Lake where he enjoyed going out on the pontoon. Louie played baseball with the Leavenworth Orioles and softball with Whitey’s All Stars for many years and truly enjoyed the friendships formed there. He bowled in the Farmers League and the Thursday night Classic League. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his buddies and later on with his son, Lance, and his “other sons” (Lance’s friends). Louie loved taking Zoey to the shop and having coffee there with neighbors and family members. He liked playing the lottery; he couldn’t wait to hit the jackpot. He made every effort to attend all his grandkids’ sporting events, giving his advice because he knew everything. Louie enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, North Stars and Vikings. Upon his retirement he kept busy by helping the neighbors with lawn mowing and snow removal with his tractor mower. His time at the Care Center was passed with daily company. How grateful he was for that.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Stephanie (Cory) Eckstein, Andrea (Jeff) Butenhoff,  and Lance (fiancée Liz Vogel) Sellner;  grandchildren, Mikyla and Randy Weilage, Colin and Kaleb Butenhoff and Madison Tauer; beloved dog, Zoey; sisters, Patricia Seifert, Phyllis Westman, Melania Meyer, Joyce (Gary) Berg,  and Beatrice (Tom) Koop; sister-in-law, Helen Sellner; brother, Florian “Doyle” (Patty) Sellner; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Jim Stimpert, Dave Caroll and Marlin (Paula) Huiras; and mother-in-law, Joleen Huiras. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Eugene Huiras; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred (Lyle) Baker, Leona (Vernon) Platz, Rita (Christ) Seifert, Mary Ann (Marlin) Rodewald, and Rosella Stimpert; sister-in-law, Sheryl Caroll; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Eddie C.
