Laura Ann Polzin was born June 24, 192, in Springfield,  Brown County, Minnesota, to Herman and Frieda (Arndt) Polzin.  She graduated from Springfield High School in 1940, and attended Mankato Commercial Business School.  On September 29, 1945, Laura married Randall Borchert at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm.  The couple was blessed with five children whom together they raised in Springfield until moving to New Ulm in 1967.  Early in life, Laura worked at the St. John’s Nursing Home in Springfield and Del Monte in Sleepy Eye before beginning her 19-year career with 3M in New Ulm from which she retired from in 1984.  In her retirement, Laura did a lot of travelling where she got to see the entire country.  For enjoyment, Laura performed demonstrations of her woven rugs that she shared with people at places like the Harkin Store.   She also found pleasure in her daily walks through town where she would visit with friends and neighbors along the way.  Later in life, Laura greatly enjoyed socializing with friends and staff while playing Bingo in Springfield.  What she enjoyed most in life was spending time with her family and grandkids.  She was a member of the Glockenspiel Club, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
