Lyle Bloedow

Lyle Bloedow, 90, of Springfield died on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Oak Hills in New Ulm after a long fight with Parkinson’s disease.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 3, at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Pastor Julie Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Springfield City Cemetery.
Lyle “Whitey” Eldred Bloedow was born on April 20, 1926 to Bertrand and Caroline (Klabunde) Bloedow in Clements, Redwood County, Minnesota. He grew up in Clements and graduated from Springfield High School in 1944. Lyle enlisted in the United State Air Corps in 1944 and served until 1946. After his years in the service, he owned and operated Bloedow Electric Service until 1963 and then worked as a union electrician until 1982, at which time he became a state electrical inspector until his retirement in 1992. On July 17, 1949, Lyle was united in marriage to Hermine Thiel in Redwood Falls and after her death he married Vera Hornick on June 2, 1984, in Springfield. He was a member of the Springfield Lions, a 70-year member of the American Legion, served on the St. John Church Council, and the Springfield Airport Commission. He was also an instructor for the DNR for gun safety and snowmobile safety. Lyle was a pilot, and also enjoyed working with wood and stained glass, antique car restoration, and helping his sons-in-law with field work. Lyle recognized two extra national holidays — fishing opener and deer hunting opening — and was diligent on observing both.
He is survived by his wife. Vera Bloedow of Springfield; children, Dianne (Steve) Lipetzky of Springfield, Pat (Joe) Grapevine of Coon Rapids, and Steve (Judy) Bloedow of Sleepy Eye; step-daughter, Peggy (Ron) Groebner of Springfield; grandchildren, Joel Lipetzky, Sara Lipetzky, Andrew Lipetzky, Kristin Lipetzky, Bill Grapevine, Kate Grapevine, Sam Bloedow, Cassie Everts and Jake Bloedow; step-granddaughters, Amy Ramaker and Sara Lang; 34 great-grandchildren; and sister, Deloris Petersen of Willmar. Lyle was preceded in death by his first wife, Herbsie; and great-grandson, Christopher Lipetzky.
