Margaret “Marge” Reginia Goeden Wellner passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. Interment followed in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Springfield.
Visitation was from 9-11 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield.

Margaret was born July 13, 1927 on the family farm near Wadena, to Joseph and Catherine (Erhardt) Goeden. She graduated from Wadena High School in 1945 and from St. Gabriel’s School of Nursing in Little Falls in 1948. Having earned her RN degree at the age of 21, she began working at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm. Later that year, she began working at Mercy Hospital in Denver, CO. On March 28, 1949 in Loveland, CO, Margaret was united in marriage to Virgil Wellner of Sanborn. They began their life together on the family farm in Stately Township where they raised five children. Margaret was a busy homemaker. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Stately Township and was active in their women’s group and was also the church organist for several years. In 1964, Margaret decided to return to nursing and worked the evening shift at Comfrey Community Hospital for 13 years. In September of 1978, Margaret and Virgil moved into their new home in Springfield. Margaret worked as an RN at St. John Lutheran Home for five years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield and held various offices in the Rebekah Circle. Margaret was an organist at the church and was a choir member. She enjoyed music, crocheting hats, scarves & table cloths, playing cards, walking, reading, golfing, traveling, and being with her family and friends. In June of 2016, Margaret decided to move to an apartment at The Maples in Springfield. On June 14, 2023, Margaret became a resident of St. John’s Lutheran Home of Springfield.
Margaret is survived by her children: Donald (Denise) of Springfield, Dean (Cai) of Mankato, Brad (Carol) of Elbert, CO, and Tom (Terry Johnson) of Eagle Lake; grandchildren Mark (Carrie) Wellner, Tim, Amy and Joel Wellner; Stacy (Mike) Grunden and Bryan (Lynn) Wellner, Cody (Allie) Wellner and Brittney Wellner, Kira (Gary) Stevenson, Jaeden and Laken Wellner, several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren; Chase, Charlotte, and Josie Wellner; Katelyn, Olivia, Aubrey, and Scarlett Grunden, Emily and Brooke Wellner, Cash and Crew Wellner, many step-great grandchildren, and sister, Sophia Richter of Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil in October 2010, daughter Connie, infant son Jeffrey, sisters; Catherine McGrane and Rosemary Lorentz, and brothers: Charles, Leo, and Joe Goeden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Circle of Care or St. Paul Lutheran Church of Springfield. Blessed be her memory.
