Marion Burghardt

Marion Burghardt, 78, of Springfield, died on April 5, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Rochester. 

A private family service with The Rev. Thomas Mroczka officiating was held at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11. Interment was in the Church of the Japanese Martyrs Catholic Cemetery in Leavenworth. 

Marion Burghardt, the daughter of Roman and Regina (Groebner) Nachreiner was born August 24, 1938 in Mulligan Township, Brown County, MN. On August 24, 1963, Marion was united in marriage to John Alvin Burghardt at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Prior to marriage, Marion worked as a surgical technician at Loretto Hospital in New Ulm for five years. After marriage, she helped with the bee and honey business and raised her family. The couple moved to Springfield in 1974. In 1991, Marion started work as a cook at the Sleepy Eye Care Center and retired after 17 years. Marion enjoyed crossword puzzles, flower gardening, family history and genealogy, coffee with the neighborhood ladies on the farm, square dancing, and spending time with her family. 

She is survived by her husband, John, of Springfield; sons, Paul (Ann Marie) and their child Samantha and her child Layla of Newburg, Mo., Thomas of Des Moines, Iowa, Curtis (Sharon) and their children Mitchell and Brenna of Algonquin, Ill., and James of Savannah, Ga.; sisters, Sally (Gary) Gulden of Hanska, Luci (Kenneth) Schweiss of Welcome, Rita Nachreiner of Springfield; and brother, Leonard Nachreiner of Comfrey. Marion was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law, Vickie Nachreiner.
